چکیده

The present work deals with enzymatic hydrolysis of sweet sorghum bagasse to fermentable sugars. The bagasse was treated with phosphoric acid and sodium hydroxide prior to enzymatic hydrolysis by commercial cellulase and β-glucosidase. The phosphoric acid pretreatment was performed at 50°C for 30 min, while 12% NaOH was used for the alkali treatment at 0°C for 3 h. The phosphoric acid pretreatment resulted in improving the subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis up to 79% of the theoretical yield. However, the best results of enzymatic hydrolysis were obtained in the hydrolysis of pretreated bagasse by NaOH solution, where more than 92% of the theoretical sugar yield was obtained.

Hydrolysis of sweet sorghum bagasse and eucalyptus wood chips with liquid hot water.

The chemical composition, hydrolysis products, and kinetics during liquid hot water pretreatment of sweet sorghum bagasse (SSB) and eucalyptus wood chips (EWC) were investigated. Under optimal conditions, a total xylose recovery of 79.6% and 55.6% for SSB and of 74.9% and 84.4% for EWC was achieved after pretreatments in a step-change flow rate reactor (184 °C, 20 ml/min, 8 min, and 10 ml/min, ...

Sugar-rich sweet sorghum is distinctively affected by wall polymer features for biomass digestibility and ethanol fermentation in bagasse.

Sweet sorghum has been regarded as a typical species for rich soluble-sugar and high lignocellulose residues, but their effects on biomass digestibility remain unclear. In this study, we examined total 63 representative sweet sorghum accessions that displayed a varied sugar level at stalk and diverse cell wall composition at bagasse. Correlative analysis showed that both soluble-sugar and dry-b...

A novel cost-effective technology to convert sucrose and homocelluloses in sweet sorghum stalks into ethanol

BACKGROUND Sweet sorghum is regarded as a very promising energy crop for ethanol production because it not only supplies grain and sugar, but also offers lignocellulosic resource. Cost-competitive ethanol production requires bioconversion of all carbohydrates in stalks including of both sucrose and lignocellulose hydrolyzed into fermentable sugars. However, it is still a main challenge to reduc...

Studies on Cellulase Production by Solid state Fermentation using Sweet Sorghum bagasse

The present study involves production of cellulolytic enzymes by a newly isolated strain of Aspergillus niger isolated from decaying sugarcane bagasse. Solid-state-fermentation was employed using sweet sorghum bagasse as the substrate for the production of enzyme. One factor at a time approach was used to optimize the process variables like moisture content, pH, temperature, and incubation peri...

Xylanase production from Penicillium citrinum isolate HZN13 using response surface methodology and characterization of immobilized xylanase on glutaraldehyde-activated calcium-alginate beads

The present study reports the production of high-level cellulase-free xylanase from Penicillium citrinum isolate HZN13. The variability in xylanase titers was assessed under both solid-state (SSF) and submerged (SmF) fermentation. SSF was initially optimized with different agro-waste residues, among them sweet sorghum bagasse was found to be the best substrate that favored maximum xylanase prod...
